Overseas study opportunities abound in Classical Studies. After reading about Greek and Roman temples and gladiator battles in the Colosseum, experience these places for yourself by studying abroad in Greece or Rome. Many of our study abroad programs fulfill degree requirements so you can continue working towards graduation while you travel. We also offer scholarships to support study and travel abroad. For more information, consult with your academic advisor or our department’s director of undergraduate studies.

Student Spotlight: Summer 2022 Excavation Experiences
Archaeological Fieldwork by IU Classical Studies Students at Selinunte (Italy) and Samothrace (Greece)
After two years of COVID-related lockdowns and travel restrictions, the summer of 2022 saw American archaeological projects resume across the Mediterranean. Thanks to the support of the Classical Studies department and the university, five IU undergraduate and graduate students – Zoey Musick, Caroline Armstrong, Renae Dishman, Lillian Waddill, and Morgan Eriksen – had the opportunity to participate in two digs and experience the ancient world firsthand.
