The Bloomington campus offers a rich array of cultural opportunities, from the Eskenazi Museum of Art with a fine collection of Greek and Roman art to the Lilly Library, which is home to a spectacular array of rare books, manuscripts, and special collections.

Program in Ancient Studies

The Program in Ancient Studies offers a Ph.D. minor to help students develop an interdisciplinary approach to the cultures of the ancient Mediterranean and Near East. The program draws on the faculty of 16 departments and programs, including Classical Studies.

Medieval Studies Institute

The Medieval Studies Institute is devoted to the study and research of medieval culture. It supports students and faculty studying multiple languages spoken in the medieval period, including Greek, Latin, Persian, Hebrew, and Arabic, and provides an interdisciplinary look at the relationships between religious, social, political, and aesthetic practices, texts, and objects of the age. The Institute offers area certificates and minors in medieval studies, coordinates a full schedule of public events and colloquia, and offers research and travel support for students.

Glenn Black Laboratory of Archeology

The Glenn Black Laboratory of Archeology (GBL) is a university-centered research laboratory, museum, library, and meeting place for the discovery, preservation, exhibition, and celebration of Indiana’s rich cultural and archaeological heritage.

Eskenazi Museum of Art

The Eskenazi Museum of Art's internationally acclaimed collection, ranging from ancient gold jewelry and African masks to art created by ancient Egyptians, Near Eastern cultures, and the Greeks and Romans, includes over 45,000 objects representing nearly every art-producing culture throughout history.

Lilly Library

The Lilly Library is Indiana University’s main repository of rare books, manuscripts, and special collections for the researcher and casual visitor alike. Find primary sources, one of the first Gutenberg bibles printed, and the Jerry Slocum Puzzle Collection among the myriad resources available at the Lilly.
