How did peripheral areas in the ancient Mediterranean world adapt to Roman rule? This course explores the people, art, and archaeology of the Roman Empire's borderlands from Syria to Britannia. It surveys a range of provincial sites, highlighting cultural change, local identities and resistance, and processes of Hellenization and Romanization.
