Though I have many areas of interest in Classics and across disciplines (from medieval Chinese history to biology), my first academic love was when I read Aristophanes for the first time in an undergraduate class. It still amazes me how something so old can make me laugh out loud. And so my current focus is on Old Comedy generally and on Aristophanes in particular, particularly: Old Comedy as a nexus of fifth-century political, intellectual and literary movements; metatheater and acts of performance/reperformance; representations of gender and queerness; and Aristophanic vocabulary, especially how word choice constructs semantic meaning. My studies in Classics are also informed by methods and concepts from folkloristics.
