About Elise Poppen

My research focuses on the houses and farmhouses of Roman Attica, including aspects such as their location in the countryside or urban landscape, the evidence for production, and their inhabitants. I am currently working on an article about the farmhouses of Roman Attica, their evidence for production, and the effect on the wider economy of the region. I have given conference papers related to this research, particularly on gender in the domestic space and the evidence for production and industry in the countryside of Roman Attica. At Indiana University, I teach Classical Mythology and Ancient Athletics. I have also taught a range of classes such as Greek civilization, Roman literature, and medical terminology. I have participated in archaeological fieldwork in Greece (Olynthos and Corinth) and the United States (North Dakota, Minnesota, and Texas), and I am currently a member of the Vigla Archaeological Project, Cyprus.
