B.S. Computer Engineering, Cal Poly SLO, 2016
M.A. Humanities, Ralston College, 2023
M.A. Classics, University of Dallas, 2025
After working as a software engineer in the Silicon Valley, I felt the call to learn the classical languages, which led me to Ralston College. This accelerated M.A. program gave me the chance to steep myself in the Greek of Homer, Plato and John. I then attended the Latin program at the Accademia Vivarium Novum, after which I went to the University of Dallas to study the dynamic relationship between amans and Amor - between the lover and his patron god Cupid - in Latin amatory poetry. This research culminated in my thesis on Book I of Ovid's Ars Amatoria, in which I argue that Ovid sought to invert the previous poetic conception of Cupid as unconquerable, put forth by elegists like Propertius and Virgil. I hope to continue this research, with an eye to Ovid's relationship with Virgil and to the medieval reception of Ovid in the courtly love tradition, in my doctoral studies at IU.
