Early during my undergraduate career at the University of Iowa, I decided to pursue Classics, since it occurred to me that my knowledge of Classical literature was sorely lacking, which caused me to have a shallow understanding of certain modern literature. Along the way, the beauty of the Greek language and the genius of its authors impressed me, so that it became an end in itself. I am interested in applying literary theoretical approaches to Greek historiography and oratory, in order to understand, among other things, how these authors negotiate between differing views concerning correct political and private action, through manipulation of the fabula.
